Sharing the skills

Brooke teachingI was raised in a very frugal household. My father was very mechanically minded and my grandmother was a seamstress. I was taught to reuse, recycle, upcycle, mend and make do, and I actually love op-shopping and trawling markets so I can repurpose things. I like to know how to make things myself, rather than have people do it for me. I also have terrible allergies and skin sensitivities and have for many years made my own skincare products. Once the internet took off (yes, I’ve been using natural ingredients since before the internet!) and tools and ingredients became more readily available, I then moved onto making my own makeup from scratch. You name it, I’ve probably had a go!

So I like to make, and I think other people want to make as well and just need a bit of a hands-on tutorial and away they go! I’ve got lots of classes coming up, and if there’s a different class you’d like me to teach, contact me and I’ll see what I can do. 🙂

I bought a thing… ok ANOTHER thing 😆it’s an I bought a thing… ok ANOTHER thing 😆it’s an 8 “ cabbing machine!!! And a very handy little dop station. So this is for shaping stones into the rounded type with a flat back, or “cabochon” ( in case you’re not familiar with the term) I just can’t get to my lapidary club as often as I’d like, so while I’m still a member, I can use the slab saw to cut down the big chunks of rough, then do the Cabbing at home!!! It comes with a diamond shaping lap, 3 shaping, sanding discs and a felt buff with diamond paste. All self contained. Properly won’t get to try it out today seeing as there’s crap all over my outside work bench ( not my crap) 😑#maker#melbourne#jeweller#setter#lapidarist#gold#silver#semiprecious#stonecutter
Interested in seeing how I set up my Jewelers Stud Interested in seeing how I set up my Jewelers Studio? Want to see me melt stuff? I might even get the wax injector going! I’m having an open studio on Sunday the 26th of June. So even if you don’t make jewellery you are welcome to come and watch me do my thing! Pm me for address. #maker#melbourne #workingstudio#jeweller#setter#casting#silver#gold#startup
Loooovvveeee! The Bee medallion is a brown wax mad Loooovvveeee! The Bee medallion is a brown wax made from a wax seal, that I had cast, then set it into the silver bezel, the other florally one is a delft sand cast I made from a wax from a fondant mold. Both are very heavy solid pieces, and I’m obsessed.😜 And another hollow locket, from a mold I bought from House of Ruth, I feel like these could be nice for ‘plague’ 😏aromatherapy blends, just like using herbs etc in the olden plague days. Still planning an open studio day, just gotta lock in a date. #maker#melbourne#setter#caster#lostwaxcasting#houseofruth#teacher#studio#handmade#tips#jewellerssetup#onthebench
How cool are these ring stand molds from AliExpres How cool are these ring stand molds from AliExpress? I wanted something both for display and for holding rings upright when I take pics. I can mix my resin in any colour I want and of varying heights. #maker#melbourne#jeweller#setter#gold#silver#preciousmetal#teacher#handmade#lostwaxcasting
Brownie has been living with Type 1 Diabetes for 8 Brownie has been living with Type 1 Diabetes for 8 years now, still a trooper, still manages it pretty well himself, his insulin pump has been a game changer, (and life saver)!
The picture on the left was taken in the morning, ( it was French Day) he was diagnosed after school that day and the pic on the right was a few months later. Every doctor we met in the early days asked me if he had lost weight? Because he’s always been pretty slim and I see him every day, I hadn’t noticed, but when I see these pics I can now tell how awful he must’ve been feeling, apart from excessive drinking and peeing, he had no other symptoms. He’s now 16 and thriving. ❤️
